Speaker Heastie Continues Statewide Tour with Assemblymember Burke to Announce Funding for School Safety

Speaker Carl Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour by joining Assemblymember Patrick Burke in West Seneca to announce a $1 million investment in school safety for West Seneca and Orchard Park Schools.

“Today’s stop on my annual statewide tour allows me to focus on something that I know is on the hearts and minds of so many students, teachers and parents, and that is school safety,” said Speaker Heastie. “I am glad to be here today to join Assemblymember Burke in announcing this critical funding because there is nothing more important than the safety of our children.”

“Students and parents alike deserve the peace of mind that our schools are as safe as they can possibly be,” said Assemblymember Burke. “This funding will go a long way in helping deliver that peace of mind, and I am incredibly thankful to the speaker for his support of this funding and for being here today to help us make this important announcement.”

The Assembly’s $1 million investment will be used for entryway security, including bullet proof glass and camera security systems. These systems will be added to schools in West Seneca School District, including nine schools in total, as well as six schools in the Orchard Park School District.

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Burke were joined for the announcement by West Seneca School District Superintendent Matthew Bystrak, Orchard Park Central School District Superintendent David Lilleck and West Seneca Teachers Union and Town Board member Joe Cantafio.
