Speaker Heastie Visits Cicero-North Syracuse High School with Assemblymember Stirpe on Annual Statewide Tour

Speaker Carl Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour in Onondaga County, visiting Cicero–North Syracuse High School with Assemblymember Al Stirpe to announce $5 million for a new STEM hub project on the school’s campus to prepare students with the skills they will need for the cutting-edge opportunities that the Micron chip manufacturing facility will bring to Central New York. The funding will be part of the 2027-28 state budget.
“As the semiconductor industry grows in Central New York and across the state, it is critical that we are setting our students and communities up for success as we look toward the future,” said Speaker Heastie. “The proposed STEM hub project at Cicero–North Syracuse High School will offer local students important workforce development and educational opportunities and prepare them for a career in STEM. It was great to join Assemblymember Stirpe today to see the impact this project will have on students, local jobs and the economy.”
“Semiconductor manufacturing is no doubt becoming a vital sector of our state and local economy, and we must work proactively to prepare New York’s next generation for a career in this important industry,” said Assemblymember Stirpe. “I was glad to show Speaker Heastie this critical project and its significance for the future of our community and state and the opportunities it will create for so many.”
Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Stirpe together visited Cicero–North Syracuse High School to learn about the proposed STEM hub project on the school’s campus. In 2022, Micron announced a $100 billion semiconductor manufacturing campus in Central New York, with groundbreaking occurring in January of this year. With Micron’s semiconductor campus’s proximity to the North Syracuse Central School District, the proposed STEM hub would offer a new, modernized space to prepare students for a career in STEM and chipmaking through upgraded labs, classrooms and equipment.
