Speaker Heastie Statement Congratulating U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer

Congratulations to former assemblymember and Brooklyn’s own U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer on becoming majority leader of the U.S. Senate. He has spent his career fighting for all New Yorkers, from the shores of Lake Erie to the Long Island Sound. As majority leader, I know he will use New York’s progressive values to right the wrongs of the last four years, and to move our country and our state forward.

After the events we saw today at the U.S. Capitol, it is more obvious than ever that new leadership is needed. Senate Majority Leader Schumer is committed to protecting our democratic values and is the leader that American families need and deserve to have looking out for them in the Senate.

The election results out of Georgia were a win for democracy, for our country and for New York State. I look forward to working with Majority Leader Schumer, and all the members of our federal delegation to fight COVID-19, safely get our kids back to school, help get New Yorkers back on their feet and to get our economy back on track.
