Statement from Speaker Carl Heastie

In its never ending quest to degrade public discourse, the New York Post's editorial board today reached a new low, if that is even possible. Using racist dog whistle language to make an inaccurate point about an issue which I am not even involved with is beyond offensive. Quite simply, no one is my master. I shouldn't have to say that in this day and age, but then again this is a publication that continually uses divisive and offensive rhetoric to promote its agenda. As the first Black Speaker of the New York State Assembly, and as Black leadership continues to rise across New York, I am deeply saddened that people who should know better continue to use this kind of rhetoric. The Post should apologize immediately.
