The Capital Defender Office was established in conjunction with the
1995 death penalty statute and is responsible for providing legal,
investigative, and expert services to indigent persons accused of or likely
to be prosecuted for capital murder. This agency is located within
the Public Protection and General Government appropriation bill.
State Operations
The Executive recommends an appropriation of $14,706,000, a net decrease
of $840,500 associated with a reduction of caseload responsibilities
during State Fiscal Year 2000-01.
