Health Care Stabilization Grant Program

New York State Department of Health

This program is designed to provide funding to help stabilize critical health care providers and health care programs whose ability to continue to provide appropriate services are threatened by financial or other challenges.
ELIGIBILITY:  New York State health care providers and health care programs that meet the requirements listed at www.health.state.ny.us/funding/grants/health_care_stabilization/description.htm.
FUNDING:   $28,000,000 in funding is available.

School Health Index Incentive Program

New York State Department of Health

The School Health Index Incentive Program will make funds available to schools that complete the School Health Index, a self-assessment tool to assist schools in identifying strengths and weaknesses in policy and environmental supports for physical activity and healthy eating.
ELIGIBILITY:  Public schools, charter schools, non-public schools and BOCES are eligible if they have all members of a coordinated school health team at their school building.
FUNDING:   It is estimated that 125 base grant awards of $1,000 and 100 mini-grant awards of $6,000 will be awarded.
DEADLINE:  December 16, 2005.

Barns Restoration and Preservation Grant Program

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation

This program provides a financial incentive for the restoration and preservation of agricultural structures in order to help preserve the agricultural landscapes of New York State.
ELIGIBILITY:  The structure that is the subject of an application must be a barn, shed, silo, or farm outbuilding that 1) is in need of substantial repair; 2) is at least fifty years old; and 3) was constructed for storage or shelter of livestock, farm equipment, or agricultural products.

Partnership Agreements

National Endowment for the Arts

These partnerships are designed to foster and preserve excellence in the arts and provide access to the arts for all Americans, advance arts education for children and youth, and develop and maintain partnerships that advance the mission of the National Endowment for the Arts.
ELIGIBILITY:  State and local governments and nonprofit organizations having 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education.
FUNDING:   Total program funding is not available, but it is estimated that 62 awards will be awarded.

Preserving and Providing Access to Records

National Archives and Records Administration, National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)

The NHPRC sponsors a variety of projects and programs to preserve and make available for use those records that further an understanding and appreciation of American history. Funding provided under this program is used to assess records' conditions and needs, develop archival and records management programs, and provide support for historical photographs, newsfilm and sound recording preservation and for microfilming.
ELIGIBILITY:  State and local governments, school districts, institutions of higher education, Native American tribal governments and nonprofit organizations having 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education.
FUNDING:   It is estimated that $5,000,000 will be available for 30 awards.

Publishing Historically Significant Records Relating to the History of the United States

FUNDING:   It is estimated that $5,000,000 will be available for 35 awards.

Green Communities Initiative Program

Enterprise Foundation

This program is a five-year project designed for developers (both private and community-based organizations) interested in creating affordable housing using Green Communities criteria. The program offers a number of financial incentives, including Green Grants, low-interest loans, LIHTC equity investments and educational conferences.
ELIGIBILITY:  501(c)(3) organizations, tribally designated housing authorities, and for-profit entities in partnership with qualified organizations.
FUNDING:    In year one of the project, a minimum of $1 million is available to the initiative. In years two through five, $4 million is available. In general, grants do not exceed $50,000.
DEADLINE:   Letters of inquiry are reviewed on a rolling basis. If your inquiry is accepted, you will be given an invitation to submit a proposal.

Read Across America Library Books Awards

NEA Foundation

The NEA Foundation has announced a new award to help public schools serving economically disadvantaged students purchase books for school libraries.
ELIGIBILITY:  The applicant must be a practicing pre K-12 teacher or education support professional and a member of the NEA, and at least 40 percent of the students in the applicant's school must be eligible for the free or reduced-price lunch program.
FUNDING:   Approximately 36 awards of $5,000 each will be awarded.
DEADLINE:  September 15, 2005 and February 1, 2006.

Best Buy te@ch awards

Best Buy

Best Buy te@ch awards will award gift cards to schools that demonstrate the integration of interactive technology into the curriculum as a way of making learning fun for students. Awards must be used by the schools to sustain or expand existing programs that integrate interactive technology into the curriculum.
ELIGIBILITY:  Non-profit (tax-exempt) K-12 schools located within 50 miles of a Best Buy store.
FUNDING:   Up to 1,200 $2,500 Best Buy gift cards will be awarded. Up to 36 schools will receive additional awards valued at $15,000, based on the creativity of the award winning programs. In February 2006, an RFP will be presented to the $15,000 award winners and, from the RFP respondents, one school district will receive a te@ch award valued at $250,000.
DEADLINE:    Applications must be completed and submitted online by September 30, 2005.

StreetSentz Community Grant Program

RadioShack

The RadioShack StreetSentz program assists local nonprofit organizations that provide programs and projects focused on helping to prevent children from abduction, violence and abuse.
ELIGIBILITY:  Organizations must have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, offer solutions for prevention of child/family abuse and/or abduction, and impact a RadioShack community.
FUNDING:   Grants are limited to $500 or less.
DEADLINE:   There are four grant cycles a year, with the next two deadlines being September 15, 2005 and December 15, 2005. The first two deadlines of 2006 are March 15, 2006 and June 15, 2006.

The Grantsmanship Center

The Grantsmanship Training Program is coming to New York: Buffalo, November 7-11, 2005, hosted by Junior League of Buffalo.

The classes will be conducted by The Grantsmanship Center and are kept at a maximum of 30 participants. The cost is $825, which includes one-year enrollment in the TGCI Membership Program. A limited number of half-tuition scholarships are available to agencies with annual budgets of less than $300,000.

The Foundation Center

The Foundation Center is holding a Grantseeking on the Web, Hands-on Introductory Training class on October 18, 2005.
