On the state level...

New York State Archives

The New York State Archives is accepting applications for the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF). The Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund Act established a fund to improve records management and archival administration in New York’s local governments. In order to apply, a municipality’s Records Management Officer (RMO) or designated RMO must have a NYS Directory service account.

  • Eligibility: Local governments in New York State, including fire districts.

  • Funding: To be determined.

  • Deadline: 5:00 pm on February 1, 2012.

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is accepting proposals for the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Demonstration Program. The EVSE Program seeks to advance the electrification of vehicles in New York through demonstration projects that showcase technologies that supply electricity to vehicles in an innovative manner. Funding for the EVSE demonstration projects is available through two separate rounds.



On the federal level...

Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program, Department of Veterans Affairs

The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced the availability of funds for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. This program supports private non-profit organizations and consumer cooperatives who will provide supportive services to very low-income veteran families who: are residing in permanent housing; are homeless and scheduled to become residents of permanent housing within a specified time period; or after exiting permanent housing within a specified time period, are seeking other housing that is in compliance with the needs of very low-income veteran families.


Translational Research for the Prevention and Control of Diabetes and Obesity (R18), National Institutes of Health (NIH)

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) encourage NIH Research Demonstration and Dissemination Project grant (R18) applications from institutions/organizations to test the effectiveness of interventions for the prevention and control of diabetes and obesity that have a high potential to be adopted and sustained in applied health care settings. Research must target the prevention or reversal of obesity, prevention of type 2 diabetes, improved care of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, or the prevention or delay of the complications of these conditions.


On the private level...

Second Chance Fund, The American Humane Association

The American Humane Association is offering financial assistance to animal welfare organizations responsible for the temporary care of abused or neglected animals as they are prepared for adoption into permanent homes. Funding may be used only to cover medical procedures for animals that have been victims of abuse and require medical treatment before being placed for adoption. Routine medical procedures, such as vaccinations, heartworm testing, spay/neuter surgery and behavior modification and/or training are outside the scope of this grant. When submitting the application, applicants must include: a copy of 501(c)3 determination letter, all veterinary receipts/estimates, before and/or after photographs of animals, and a signed photo release. The grant program is not for individuals, businesses, or corporations.


Carnegie Corporation of New York

Carnegie Corporation of New York seeks to fund applicants with goals to promote international peace and advance education and knowledge. Some of the programs supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York include: Urban and Higher Education, Democracy and Civic Integration, and International Peace and Security. Interested parties must submit a Letter of Inquiry (preferably online) before the application process can move forward.

The Foundation Center

The Foundation Center has scheduled the following free training classes in New York City during February 2012:

Grantseeking Basics: February 1, 15, 22
Attendees will learn how the center’s resources can help make them more effective grantseekers. For beginners, this introduction to the library provides instruction in foundation research and identification of potential funders. A tour of the library will follow.

Introduction to Finding Funders: February 1, 22
This class provides a hands-on introduction on how to use the center’s comprehensive online database – the Foundation Directory Online – to research and identify potential funders. The Foundation Directory Online contains over 100,000 profiles of grantmaking institutions.

How to Approach a Foundation: February 8
Attendees will learn how to initiate contact with potential donors, plan calls and meetings, and build partnerships with sponsors. This class is intended for fundraisers who have some experience but are not experts.

Proposal Writing Basics: February 21
Attendees will learn about the basics of writing a proposal for their nonprofit organization.

Proposal Budgeting Basics: February 21
Attendees will learn how to prepare and present a budget in a grant proposal. The session is geared toward novice grant seekers.

Introduction to Fundraising Planning: February 29
Attendees will learn a basic planning process for diversifying their organization’s support.
