The 35-member Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) is federally
funded through the Federal Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of
Rights Act, originally passed in 1975 and recently reauthorized. Federal law
requires that at least 60 percent of the Council's membership must be persons
with developmental disabilities or their families. The Council's staff of 18
administers and monitors contracts with not-for-profit agencies to enhance
services and service delivery to persons with developmental disabilities to
improve their quality of life.
This agency is included in the Health, Mental Hygiene and Environmental
Conservation appropriation bill.
State Operations
The Executive recommends a decrease of $36,000 in the total Agency appropriation
to reflect an anticipated decrease in federal support.
