Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Task Force on Women’s Issues webpage. I am honored to serve as Chair and be part of this task force’s nearly fifty-year legacy of women’s leadership in the New York State Assembly.
Since the Task Force on Women’s Issues was established in 1981, our members have been dedicated to advancing equity, opportunity, and safety for all women and girls across New York State. We recognize that women’s experiences are not monolithic; our work is grounded in intersectionality, which is reflected in the diverse identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences of our membership and the people we serve.
Our Task Force provides a platform for collaboration and advocacy, bringing together legislators, community leaders, advocates, and New Yorkers to address the systemic barriers that both cisgender and transgender women face. We address these issues with the intention to identify and fight against the consequences of overlapping forms of discrimination, such as sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and xenophobia, shaping the outcomes for women and gender diverse people. Our work spans a broad range of issues, including economic and workplace equity, healthcare access and reproductive freedom, immigrant justice, food and housing stability, and the prevention of gender-based violence, among others.
Through community engagement, research-based policy advocacy, and partnership, the Task Force on Women’s Issues elevates voices that are too often excluded from policymaking. To make meaningful progress toward a New York that reflects the full diversity of women and girls’ lives in its policy, we must center those who have been most impacted by injustice.
We invite you to explore our initiatives, learn more about our ongoing work, and engage with us as we strive to build a more just, inclusive, and equitable New York. For all inquiries related to our task force, please contact our Executive Director, Emma Willette, at the email willettee@nyassembly.gov.
Thank you for your engagement and for standing with us in this important work.
In loving solidarity,
Jessica González-Rojas
